The UNIVERSITY GRANTS COMMISSION (UGC) has created a new fellowship known as Kothari Fellowship for students pursuing PhD courses. This fellowship is only for deserving students. About Kothari Fellowship 2024


The Kothari Fellowship is an initiative of the UNIVERSITY GRANTS COMMISSION (UGC). It is awarded to about 500 deserving students from India. These fellowships enable them to pursue their academic and research careers. All students who successfully meet the eligibility criteria will complete the application process. They will get 46 thousand 500 rupees per month from the fellowship after being selected. With which one can quickly achieve all the achievements in the research field. The selected candidate will get the benefit of this fellowship for 3 years.

The main objective of the Kothari Fellowship Program is to provide financial assistance to financially backward students engaged in PhD courses. With the benefit of this fellowship, they can manage their research and academic activities properly without worrying about their financial status. DS Kothari Fellowship: Benefits


After completing the application process, the selected students and the benefits they will receive from the Kothari Fellowship are discussed below:-

  • First-year students will get Rs 45,800 /- per month.
  • Second-year candidates will get a Rs 40,000 /- monthly fellowship.
  • In the third year, i.e. in the last year, candidates will get a monthly benefit of Rs 46,500 /-.
  • Contingency- @Rs.1,00,000/- per month.

Duration 

Candidates for the Kothari Postdoctoral Fellowship will receive the benefit for 3 years. Applicants can apply at any time from home.

Kothari Postdoctoral Fellowship: Eligibility Criteria 


Follow below the eligibility criteria required to complete the application process properly:-

  • The upper age limit for applicants is 35 years,
  • Relaxation in age for SC/ST/OBC/Women candidates applicable as per Government of India Norms
  • The candidate must have a doctorate in the relevant subject, preferably with published research work to their credit. 
  • Only Ph.D.-awarded unemployed candidates will be eligible for the award of a Postdoctoral Fellowship.

Documents


The following are the important documents to be attached to the application form:-

  • D. Work Summary in the prescribed format
  • Concept proposal of the postdoctoral research in the prescribed format
  • The CV of the Mentor in the prescribed format
  • Certificates of Graduation and Postgraduation
  • Certificate as proof of age, such as a class 10 certificate
  • D. Degree Certificate or Certificate by the PhD guide/Registrar of University/Institute
  • Original Certificate of Mentor on proper letterhead specifying that they are willing to guide the applicant for their Postdoc Research work in the prescribed format.
  • NET/SET Certificate, if applicable
  • Reserved Category/Physically Handicapped Certificate if applicable

DS Kothari Postdoctoral Fellowship: Selection Process


  1. The selection process is open all year round in `…as and when….’ mode and not restricted by any specified deadlines such as thesis submission and award of Ph. D. degree are open-ended processes. There is a rolling advertisement on the UGC website; other institutions and UGC affiliates should be encouraged to replicate it on theirs. 
  2. b) There is a designated website (http://ugcdskpdf.unipune.ac.in/) to apply for the fellowships. The entire process is being carried out online online. 
  3. c) There is a standing (core) peer group that can access the web applications and grade them electronically. Based on the grades received (electronically) from the peer group, the Chair of this group makes the final decision. Since this is a promotional scheme to inculcate postdoctoral research culture, the emphasis during the review process/selection is on an appropriate mix of the candidate’s accomplishment at Ph.D level and the professional standing of the mentor and institution where the postdoctoral research is to be carried out. In general, candidates are encouraged to move to other institutions and newer areas of research. 
  4. d) The selection process has to be completed within 6 weeks of the receipt of the individual application. 
  5. e) There could be up to 500 such awards yearly, reaching about 1000 at its peak.

Cancellation of Award 


The fellowship is liable to cancellation in the case of: 

  • Misconduct. 
  • Unsatisfactory progress of research work. 
  • The candidate is later found ineligible. 
  • The candidate is already availing scholarship/fellowship from any other sources. 
  • Candidate if found employed during the PDF research. 
  • Any false information furnished by the applicant or any fraudulent activity by the Scholar/Fellow/Research Awardees
