About MK Bhan Fellowship 2024

The Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Government of India have launched a new grant known as M K Bhan – Young Research Fellowship Program. The MK Bhan Fellowship 2024 encourages bright young PhD students to pursue research in India. The scheme also provides an independent research grant to young postdoctoral fellows to enable them to emerge as future leaders and undertake cutting-edge research focused on issues of national relevance. The fellowship will facilitate the continuation of reloading work at the DBT Autonomous Institutes.

Object Of MK Bhan Fellowship

The main objective of the MK Bhan Fellowship is to enable young researchers to pursue their research interests within the country. This will allow young researchers to pursue their research interests and develop a critical mass of trained scientists for the country’s research institutions and universities. And major new initiatives.

Who Is Eligible For M K Bhan – Young Researcher Fellowship Program?

Only students who meet the eligibility criteria listed below may apply for this fellowship online.

  • The applicant must be a permanent resident of India.
  • The applicant should not hold a permanent position in any college or university.
  • The student’s age must be within 35 years as of the last date of application submission.
  • Applicant must be an Indian citizen and possess a Ph. D. degree. in any branch of Life Sciences/Biotechnology/ allied areas.
  • Applicants cannot apply for more than one fellowship at a time.
  • The applicant must have an excellent track record, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, developed technologies, and patents (if any). Those who have submitted their Ph.D. are also eligible to apply; however, the fellowship can only be implemented after the degree is obtained. The applicant must not hold a fellowship at the institute where he/she completed his/her Ph.D. degree.
  • Each applicant must identify a host institute and a mentor.
  • The application must be endorsed by the mentor and the director of the host institute (DBT Autonomous Institute) chosen by the applicant to accept the fellowship in the prescribed format.
  • In case a fellow is accepted to a regular position in the DBT autonomous institute, the salary component of the fellowship will be discontinued from the date of joining the position, however, other components of the fellowship will be continued for the remaining tenure of the fellowship.
  • The fellowship is a co-terminus with the project duration.

MK Bhan Fellowship Required Documents

  1. Proof of date of birth.
  2. Proof of Master’s degree, and PhD Certificate.
  3. One copy of each publication is mentioned in columns 13 and 14.
  4. One copy of recognition/award details mentioned in column 16
  5. Consent form from mentor (as the case may be) and host institute

Duration and number of fellowships

Approximately 50 fellowships are awarded each year and the duration of the fellowship will be for a maximum of three years, in exceptional cases, the duration may be extended for two years after a new evaluation.

  • A national-level selection committee constituted by the Department of Biotechnology will select the final candidates for MKB-YRFP.

Eligible applicants should apply as per the prescribed proforma to DBT duly forwarded by the Host Institute (DBT AIs only) where they intend to take up the fellowship.
